COME DISCOVER the “new” Tyrrell’s Antiques, where you’ll find a treasure trove of harder-to-find movie posters, vinyl records, and other fun stuff! Conveniently located in the John’s Landing neighborhood of SW Portland, we’ve been in this same location for over three decades, specializing in vintage advertising, antique toys, and other fine collectibles. We still have a sampling of those items, but our focus now is on movie memorabilia and scarce record albums. Whether you’re a serious collector or not, we invite you to come browse to your heart’s content. Your eyes won’t know where to look next!
More than 40 years ago, and after many endeavors, owner Frank Tyrrell was introduced to the world of antiques and collectibles. He knew from the start that that’s what he wanted to do. His journey began in the Chicago area, where he opened his first store in Evanston, Illinois. But after a horrendous, snow-filled winter, the old saying “Go west, young man, go west” kept entering his mind, and off he went.
Eventually he ended up in Portland, where he met and married his wife, Dayle. He opened a shop in 1985 and has been in the same location ever since. His main interests were in vintage soda fountain collectibles and memorabilia. PBS filmed a few episodes of “The Collectors” in the shop and in their home. He sold his collectibles at a few shows but mostly concentrated on the shop.
Some time ago he bought his first jukebox, and off in a different direction he went, buying and selling vinyl records, movie and concert posters, etc. Over the years his shop had become known as “Portland’s best-kept secret.”
Now that Frank is in his mid-70s, he is often asked when he plans to retire. He just answers with a smile and the push of a jukebox button, playing an oldie but a goodie.
Dayle handles the day-to-day operation of the shop and greets customers as they enter. She is also responsible for listings on Etsy and Ebay.
